The First Step Towards a Bulletproof Mindset

“Wherever the mind goes, the body will follow.” These words from my good friend and mentor Raymell Bentley will always be remembered. The first step in truly unleashing greatness begins mentally. Referring back to my last article, The Action Plan for the Life You Deserve, yes goal setting is a MUST and it will create the foundation for anything you desire but let’s dig deeper. What is a bulletproof mindset? How do you develop a bulletproof mindset? The answer is affirmations.

A bulletproof mindset means nothing can get in your way or push you off course. The reality is things happen and we encounter adversity, challenges, you name it (2020 yikes). Sometimes we fall victim to giving up. In order to develop this natural bulletproof protection, it takes time and work. It does not happen overnight. But like anything, developing good habits will result in permanent results.

To develop a bulletproof mindset, the first step is feeding your subconscious mind with positivity. Over 90% of our actions come from our subconscious mind. We should feed our minds with positive affirmations. These affirmations are positive phrases that will internally motivate, inspire, and shift your mood. To add a visual, they serve as little bodyguards or guardian angels in protecting us. Affirmations can serve as our own hype-men/women. If you haven’t heard of affirmations, you’re probably wondering “do they work”…..

The good news, if you’re asking that question the answer is yes. I’m one to love scientific evidence so let’s take a look. In a published article by Catherine Moore, Psychologist, MBA she states, “If you want to be super specific, the ventromedial prefrontal cortex—involved in positive valuation and self-related information processing—becomes more active when we consider our personal values (Falk et al., 2015; Cascio et al., 2016)”. This is scientific proof shining a light on the famous phrases about self love. Feeding your mind these positive affirmations can equip you with a superpower, ultimately leading to a more positive lifestyle.

There are also some key benefits you need to read. Catherine states 6 (link will be shared) and I am absolutely sure we can go all day about the benefits. The one that stands out is, “Self-affirmations have been shown to decrease health-deteriorating stress (Sherman et al., 2009; Critcher & Dunning, 2015)”. Whenever we hear “stress” it triggers us emotionally and physically. History shows how detrimental stress can be. Affirmations can be the first step to developing a bulletproof mindset.

As for examples, there are limitless examples you can find in which you may prefer personally. One that I use every day is, “My body is healthy, my mind is brilliant, my soul is tranquil.” This was passed down to me along with others. Personally, I choose to read my affirmations in the morning because I am reprogramming my subconscious mind to believe the affirmations. Saying them aloud or reading them to yourself daily will operate your daily life over time. Your actions become molded through your positive words.

Extended List of Personal Affirmations (Passed down to me, now your turn):

  • I attract limitless abundance.
  • I believe I can do anything.
  • Everything happening now is happening for my ultimate good.
  • I am the architect of my life: I built its foundation and choose its contents.
  • I forgive those who have harmed me in my past and peacefully detach from them.
  • My ability to conquer my challenges is limitless: my potential to succeed is infinite.
  • Today, I am brimming with energy and flowing with joy.
